PocketBook IQ Android Tablet Coming to the U.S.?
0Apple iPad may be quite popular among LCD e-reader fans but it will soon be challenged by a tsunami of Android tablets. A handful of tablet makers are expected to release their products in 2011 (when Android 3 is released). PocketBook IQ may make it to the U.S. a bit sooner. It has found its way to the FCC’s website already. PocketBook IQ has a 7 inch TFT screen and will take advantage of Android 2.x (an update to Froyo could be in the cards).
PocketBook IQ, according to the company behind it, is more of an entertainment device than an e-book reader. nook is expected to stay king among Android e-book readers for now. The Android platform gives smaller players a better chance to properly challenge the top dogs such as Kindle. But it won’t be enough as long as Amazon and other big players stay aggressive with their pricing and strategies.
It goes without saying that many of these smaller tablets and e-book readers won’t stick around for too long. There are already too many e-book readers on the market. Unfortunately, a lot of these small players do not think out of the box to differentiate their products from others on the market. They may achieve some success in international markets. The competition in the U.S. market is just too intense for smaller players to keep up with the aggressive ways of Amazon and B&N.
