Pedophile-Gate Author Arrested
0Remember the controversial pedophilia book that got Amazon in so much hot water? Its author has found out the hard way that one can’t write a book about such a topic and get away with it. He was recently arrested in Florida for obscenity charges.
You cannot engage or depict children in a harmful relationship… He actually provided a how-to guide to commit sexual battery against children
said Polk County, Florida, Sheriff Grady Judd. The author has claimed time and time again that his book is not about inflicting injuries to or harming children. At the same time, it is one of the most disgusting titles that we have ever seen published and made available in a major store.
Unfortunately, going after someone for the content of his book (and not a real crime) can set a bad precedent. According to CNN, Sheriff Judd was not too happy about the 1st amendment protecting the author’s freedom of speech:
Judd said he was frustrated that Greaves’ book was protected under freedom of speech laws, even though it was created “specifically to teach people how to sexually molest and rape children.”
But that is what freedom is all about. It is true that the book about pedophilia probably should not have made it to Amazon Kindle Store. But we can not go around arresting people for controversial books. Freedom of speech can be messy at times. If we start arresting people for writing controversial and objectionable content, where do we draw the line?
