Amazon Releases First Paid Game for Kindle
0Amazon already has 2 free games for Kindlers to play with. Shuffled Row and Every Word are mainly word games. So is Scrabble, which has just been released on Amazon, courtesy of Electronic Arts. Scrabble, which costs $4.99, is a very popular word game and works on all Kindles (except Kindle 1). This game does leave a whole lot to be desired. When Electronic Arts signed up to be a part of Amazon’s Kindle platform effort, many thought it’d develop more sophisticated games. Unfortunately, Kindle is not capable of handling too sophisticated games.
This game does allow multiple players to play Scrabble with a Kindle. But, Kindle 2 Kindle gaming is not supported. To be fair, Scrabble is fast. It is fun to play no matter on what device you get to do it. Amazon does need to step up its game and develop a coherent strategy for Kindle SDK (KDK). Jeff Bezos has talked about how Kindle won’t ever be a gaming device. Still, the current crop of games are quite disappointing. Amazon could be doing more exciting things with Kindle platform (including getting more developers involved).
Scrabble for Kindle looks like a fairly decent game considering the limitations of Amazon Kindle. But it costs too much and does not offer full multi-player gaming experience. It is a start but not one a lot of us were hoping for as far as KDK is concerned.
Are you impressed with Kindle games so far?
