NOOK Color 2 To Go Head To Head with Kindle Tablet
0We have known for quite some time that Amazon intends to bring a Kindle tablet to the market. Many experts consider Amazon to be among few companies possibly capable of challenging Apple in the tablet market. Amazon’s upcoming tablet will have a 7 inch screen with a dual core processor inside. It will cost $250. It will be a direct challenger to B&N’s NOOK Color.
According to Digitimes, B&N won’t be sitting idle to let Amazon have all the fun. The company plans to bring the next generation NOOK Color to the market as early as this month:
Taiwanese suppliers will ship key components to be used in Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color 2, scheduled for release in September 2011. E Ink will continue to supply e-paper backplanes for Nook Color 2. Nook Color 2 will feature a 7-inch full color touchscreen, and support functions of email, music, games and apps.
The sub $300 slates market is expected to get quite competitive in the next few months. Lenovo and a few other companies are planning to play a role in it. Putting all the success that B&N has had with NOOK color aside, experts expect Amazon to dominate this market. Amazon has proven in the past that it can be quite aggressive with its pricing and content strategies. That is bad news for its competitors.
It will be interesting to see how B&N prices NOOK Color 2. Could it offer this new tablet for under $200? Will it use color e-paper technology in this device? These questions remain unanswered at this point.
