Kindle Tablet, 2 New NOOKs Coming?
0This is the best time of the year for those of you who follow the e-book industry closely. Many e-reader makers are planning to bring new devices to the market just ahead of the holiday shopping season. Amazon has already announced that it will hold a press conference on September 28th to unveil a new product. The details on the announcements are not known. But multiple sources are reporting that Amazon will indeed introduce a new version of Kindle on that date (possibly the much anticipated Android tablet). The tablet will have a 7 inch screen with Amazon UI for Android platform.
Amazon is not the only company bringing new e-readers to the market. The Digital Reader blog has gotten its hands on a document that indicates two new NOOK tablets will be coming this year. Barnes & Noble Encore and Acclaim tablets will cost $249 and $349 respectively. The Encore tablet is expected to be a budget tablet just like NOOK Color. Acclaim is a premium tablet that may be in the process of being tested by GameStop already.
This is a brilliant strategy by B&N to stay competitive with Amazon (if the rumors are true). Instead of waiting to get upstaged by Amazon, B&N is stepping up its game, which should push Amazon to do the same. Amazon has a quad core tablet code-named “Hollywood” planned already. That is expected to make it to the market in 2012 if Amazon’s first tablet is a success. These are truly exciting times for e-book adopters.
