Jeff Bezos:Mobile Content Sharing with Audio Signals

Sharing content by bumping two smartphones together is not a new practice. It has been around for a while and adopted by companies such as Samsung. It can be used for transferring photos, videos, and other files. Jeff Bezos’ plan for mobile content sharing is a bit different though. It involves using audio signals to share content between devices. With this approach, one devices sends an audible signal to another, which will decode that signal to download the shared content from a remote server.

This could work for devices that don’t have NFC chips. It also supports sharing content with multiple people at the same time. This is just a patent application, so it is not clear whether Amazon plans to introduce this when the next Kindles hit the market. The idea is quite exciting though.
