Google Picks Up eBook Technologies
0Google is quite serious about dominating the e-book industry. It has just picked up eBook Technologies as a part of its push to make a more meaningful impact in this industry. With the first batch of Android 3.0 tablets making their debut in the next couple of months, Google will rely on acquisitions of this type to expand its content distribution processes. The following statement on eBook Technologies website confirmed the acquisition:
eBook Technologies, Inc. is excited to announce that we have been acquired by Google. Working together with Google will further our commitment to providing a first-class reading experience on emerging tablets, e-readers and other portable devices.
Google also confirmed the deal in a short statement (as reported by TechCrunch):
We are happy to welcome eBook Technologies’ team to Google. Together, we hope to deliver richer reading experiences on tablets, electronic readers and other portable devices.
eBook Technologies had an end-to-end ebook platform, offering an e-book reader, an online e-book store, and a book conversion platform just to name a few. The details are quite sketchy at this point. It is not clear how Google will use eBook Technologies services. But from the above diagram from eBook Technologies’ website, Google could be looking to offer its users a more complete eBook ecosystem on Android and on the web.
What’s your guess?
