Amazon Files Patent for Cloud-Based Future Kindles?
0Many of us are dying to know what Amazon is planning to do with its e-readers. The Kindle Paperwhite is a great device and Kindle Fire tablets have a lot going for them. The latest Amazon patent application suggests that Amazon may be getting ready to introduce cloud-based Kindles in the future. That’s right. We are talking about displays that receive their data remotely from their base station:
A remote display system including a portable display that wirelessly receives data and power from a primary station. The primary station, which is remote from and without a tangible connection with the portable display, includes a data transmitting element and a power transmitting element. The portable display includes a power receiving element that receives power wirelessly from the power transmitting element and a data receiving element operable to receive data from the data transmitting element.
These portable displays won’t necessarily require a power source. They will most likely be very thin and cheap. They could play a role in school and other industries. It is not clear when Amazon will launch them though. Let’s just say the current Kindles will be around for a while.
