Those of us who have owned E-ink based e-readers in the past know too well about their shortcomings. These gadgets may be great for use in the outdoors. They are not that useful for getting some reading done in dark areas (at least not without a light). Flex Lighting is behind a cool LED film technology that can change that. This thin film goes on your e-reader and is quite invisible. At the very same time, it will provide readers with the light they need to use their e-reader in low-light conditions.

FLEx Illuminated Optical Film is completely invisible when it is turned off. It produces a soft glow for your device but stays energy efficient. This technology will work on color and mono screens. Since it uses fewer LEDs that similar solutions on the market, FLEx Illuminated Optical Film remains extremely thin. It does not hinder touchscreens which is nice.

FLEx Lighting uses up to 40% fewer LEDs than direct and edge lighting and does not require a light-mixing region. This results in the least expensive and most compact LED lighting technology available,

states flexlighting.com. Flex films can be used for e-readers, televisions, smartphones, tablets, and even keyboards. They also have applications for the military and medical professionals. It will be cool to see these screens in action. The technology has potential.
