Fire OS 3.1 Now Available, Older Kindles Don’t Get It
0Amazon has finally shipped Fire OS 3.1 with some of the features many of us have been waiting for. As I mentioned in my review of the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9″, the device did not have Second Screen and many other features Amazon was advertising. Those are now available.
- Goodreads: Fire OS now offers deep integration with Goodreads. Readers can capture and share quotes, see what friends are reading, and rate books.
- Second Screen: you can now fling TV shows and movies from your tablet to a TV screen. I still don’t understand why Amazon got rid of the video out port but this is better than nothing.
- Cloud Collections, voice dictation, 1-tap archiving, wireless printing, accessibility features
- Battery and performance enhancements
Fire OS 3.1 is available for new Kindles. Did you buy an old Kindle? Better luck next time. This is exactly why I will not be buying any more Kindle devices. Even the iPad 2 runs iOS 7. But there is no guarantee your old Kindle will ever get the latest Fire OS any time soon.
