Nemoptic E-paper Display: is it a winner?
0The nature of our books is changing. People are getting more used to those dynamic e-books that are full of interactive content. Let’s not forget that a lot of people spend hours each day watching videos. Amazon Kindle and other E-ink-based e-readers may not support video-books at this point, but there are indications that future generation e-readers will support those so-called Book 2.0 titles.
Nemoptic has developed a screen that can handle everything your Amazon Kindle can but it can display videos and is touch-friendly too. Apparently, these screens have a refresh rate of 30 milliseconds and come with a decent enough resolution to handle all types of content.
Nemoptic’s new e-paper display can do something your Kindle screen can’t: it has a backlight that you can turn on to read on it in darker areas. It is still not a color display, but it seems to be the next big thing.
Nemoptic does not seem to have a partner to push this display. We won’t know exactly how good these displays are unless they get some action in the real world. Still, this does show that e-reader makers won’t need a color LCD screen to provide more value to their customers.
