E-readers Beating Tablets?
0There has been a lot of talk about how tablets are selling like hot-cakes. If we did not know any better, we would think everyone in the U.S. owns a tablet. Apparently, the tablet market is not where many assume it to be. A recent study by Nielsen shows that less than 5 percent of consumers in the U.S. may have bought a tablet. As reported on Moconews, tablets are behind smartphones, e-readers, media players, and netbooks when it comes to market penetration in the U.S.
12,000 U.S. consumers were surveyed for this study. Smart-phones are at a more mature state than tablets at this point. The fact that Google Android has ways to go to become consumer friendly on tablets may have contributed to the tablet market’s slower than expected growth.
While this study is interesting, there is no question tablets are here to stay. Even Amazon has realized that. The company may have sold a ton of Kindles in the past few years. But it can’t afford not to be involved in the tablet business. With the netbook market slowing down, e-readers and tablets will continue to further penetrate the markets.
