Bookeen Orizon: All Hype?
0Remember Bookeen? Yes. The company used to have an e-book reader at a time when there weren’t too many of these e-readers around. Well, the company is still around and going strong. In fact, it is bringing its Orizon product to the U.S. market soon. The device is a 6 inch screen e-reader that is equipped with Sipix monochrome e-paper with multi-touch capability. It will also have WiFi and 1 GB of memory. Add bluetooth and an accelerometer, and you have a solid all around device.
Unfortunately, this device is expected to be priced around $250 in the U.S. Sure, it’s a nice alternative to some of the lower-end e-readers on the market, but it’s nothing close to Kindle or Nook when it comes to its features. Considering that this device lacks a 3G service, it’s hard to see too many people investing in this device.
Bookeen will probably have more success with this device in Europe and other areas of the world. But the competition is cut throat in this side of the world. Bookeen will never out-Amazon or out-Nook the top dogs in this industry. So wouldn’t be smart to try to beat them with its low prices? Apparently not.
