Amazon Unveils Fire TV, More To Come?
0Amazon has finally announced the Fire TV set-top box. The device challenges Apple TV and Roku. It lets you watch content from Amazon, Netflix, and many other partners. It also has voice search capability. The device has a quad core processor, 2 GB of memory, dedicated GPU and 1080p video. While it is not a dedicated gaming console, you can play games on it. Parental controls will be available too.
This is just a start though. It is no secret that Amazon is not making money on its hardware. As Forrester analyst James McQuivey has explained, Amazon will surely find ways to make users buy more things as they consume content:
the company will eventually want to help you buy things in the living room .. Only Amazon can piece that entire experience together in the living room, and though we don’t see evidence of that ambition here today, we should assume Amazon knows this and is planning on it
All in all, Amazon has a decent set-top box that has its own shortcomings, just like Kindle tablets. But the product now gives Amazon a new way to experiment to find new ways to get people to buy more things. I personally prefer Chromecast to the Fire TV, but this device is surely going to be a bestseller.
