Amazon Releases Tools for E-book Programming
0Enhanced e-books are the future. The Amazon Kindle platform may be one of the most popular ones around these days. But Amazon is working hard to provide its publishers with the tools they need to create even more sophisticated work for it. Amazon’s tools enable authors to work with technologies such as HTML and XHTML to develop their work.
Through the use of HTML5 and CSS3, KF8 allows publishers to create great-looking books in all categories, particularly those that require rich formatting and design, such as technical & engineering books and cookbooks. For those doing more advanced formatting by writing HTML5, using design software or working with a conversion resource, KF8 features such as Kindle Panel Views and Kindle Text Pop Up enable great fixed layout books like graphic novels, comics, and kids’ books.
These technologies make it possible for authors and independent publishers to set their work apart and offer a richer experience to their audience. Amazon has released KindleGen and KindlePreviewer to let authors see how their books will look on various Kindle devices. KindleGen is a KF8 converter:
KindleGen is a command line tool which enables publishers to work in an automated environment with a variety of source content including HTML, XHTML or EPUB. KindleGen converts this source content to a single file which supports both KF8 and Mobi formats enabling publishers to create great-looking books that work on all Kindle devices and apps.
Authors serious about working with Amazon for the long term are better off experimenting with these tools as early as possible.
