Amazon Kindle Coming to Target?
0Many have complained about not being able to buy Amazon Kindle in retail stores. After all, there are some people who have to hold these gadgets in their hands and test them out in person before making a buy or not-buy decision. According to Engadget, Amazon may be getting ready to bring Amazon Kindle to a Target store near you. We all knew that Amazon was going to make a move to respond to Apple iPad. There were rumors about Amazon dropping Kindle price to $149. However, it seems the company may be ready to expand its distribution channels to bring Kindle to more people.
Barnes & Noble is not sitting idle. In fact, the company has already planned its own move to get some more exposure for Nook by bringing the device to BestBuy. That could happen as early as April 18th. Both devices won’t have to face a show-down with the iPad in those stores as Apple is currently not making the iPad available in stores.
Make no mistake about it. Both Amazon and B&N know what they are dealing with as far as iPad is concerned. The iPad is not perfect. It is not made to be just an e-reader. You can not even add your existing e-books to its storage drive easily. Nevertheless, it is going to be tough for both companies to compete effectively against Apple as long as they keep their prices high. e-readers need to be cheaper for the average Joe to pay attention. Both Amazon and B&N are going to get a decent amount of exposure for their e-readers by bringing them to retail stores. Both will need to innovate to stay relevant. It’d be interesting to see how Kindle 3 and Nook 2 stack up against Apple iPad and HP Slate.
