Amazon Kindle and Possibilities In a Social Web
0The idea of social web has been around for years. Even before MySpace came long and Facebook became what it is today, there were a few sites that were practicing the concept of social web. A couple of years ago, a lot of folks weren’t really involved with all the social sites. These days, Facebook and MySpace have millions of daily visitors and a lot of folks spend their time to stay connected with their friends and colleagues on a daily basis.
In Kindle, Amazon has a device that the consumers use on a daily basis to learn new things and keep up with the news. But it’s surprising that Amazon hasn’t take steps to go social with their device. Think about it. You are planning to read a book on DSLR cameras. You go to Kindle store, and you sample books until you find one that looks promising. What if you could see how many of your friends/colleagues have bought that book. How about seeing their reviews (if any) on those books? Wouldn’t it be fun to see what they are reading now? Maybe you could buy them a present from their book wish-list.
Amazon has a great device that can connect people. Reading by yourself can be fun, but reading with others can be even more fun. And let’s not forget that having a social community behind Amazon Kindle can give the company another layer of competency that can’t be duplicated by other companies trying to get into this business. I don’t believe for a second that Amazon has not been working on this. The company is too smart to let this chance slip by. But will we see this feature implemented in the next few months? We may find out in less than a week.
