Amazon Introduces Kindle 3G with Special Offers
0We have been a bit skeptical about Amazon’s new Kindle with “special offers.” The $25 discount that Amazon offers for the right to show sponsored content on that device does not seem merely enough. That has not stopped Amazon from bringing that offer to Kindle 3G though. Kindle fans can now buy Kindle units with advertising for $164 (instead of $189).
You still get:
- $10 for $20 Amazon.com Gift Card
- Save up to $500 off Amazon’s already low prices on select HDTVs
- $1 for a Kindle book, choose from thousands of books
- Free $10 Amazon.com Gift Card with $10 spent on e-books
Amazon Kindle is still the top e-book reader on the market (not counting tablets). However, Amazon needs to stop playing around and bring a new Kindle model to the market before B&N gets too much momentum. B&N’s decision to introduce NOOK color a while ago is now paying dividend. Nook 3 (called the Simple Touch Reader) is more compact and offers similar battery life to Kindle 3.
We predicted a while ago that Amazon will bring a touchscreen e-reader to the market soon. That is yet to happen. But B&N has just shown Amazon how to get that done. Kindle 3 and Kindle DX both need to be refreshed at some point. Will Amazon do the job this year considering that it is planning to release two tablets to the market? That remains to be seen.
