Alex Reader Already Shipping. Too Pricey?
0Alex Reader by Spring Design has been in the works for quite a while, and many of us have been waiting to see how it feels to play with the device’s unique features. Nook may have spoiled a part of that by adding a color navigation LCD, but that does not mean Alex Reader won’t have its fans. The wait is finally over, and Alex Reader is in stock and shipping for only $399!
Alex Reader is quite unique. It’s like having an e-book reader and a mini web tablet both fit into one device. The color LCD screen can be used to surf the Internet, find books for the device, and watch movies. What makes Alex Reader stand out at this point is its support for Android platform. The device already supports a few Android apps, and it is open to all developers who want to enhance the device’s functionality with their apps.
Alex Reader is based on an innovative concept, and it would have had a great chance to make a decent splash in the e-book reader business just a couple of years ago. But at this point, it seems to have been priced too high. It’s currently more expensive than Amazon Kindle, Nook, and not too far away from Apple iPad. It does have a long battery life, Android apps, other exciting features. But will Spring Design be ready to drop its prices to compete more effectively in this market?
Alex Reader may not be destined to dominate the e-book reader market, but it is going to open the doors for more Android e-readers and tablets. Besides, it has the “cool factor” going for it. That has to count for something, right?
Would you invest in Alex Reader if you were shopping for an e-reader?
