Correction: B&N Picks Up Irex Too?
0Barnes & Noble may be a little bit late to the game, but it is certainly picking up Kindle competitors left and right. B&N has decided that partnering with Kindle competitors is the way to go when it comes to competing with Amazon in e-book sales. First it was Plastic Logic Reader that was picked up by Barnes & Noble. But that device isn’t even out, and who knows when we are going to see it released to the market. Irex, on the other hand, is a real reader and has been around for a while.
The third generation Irex reader is a 8.1 inch e-book reader that is Wi-Fi capable and lets you read all kinds of documents on the go. It’ will not be as large as Kindle DX, but it’s certainly of a decent size. And while you can get international content for the device easily, you are going to have a hard time finding content for the device in this side of the world. But fear not. With the partnership with B&N, the Irex reader will have access to a decent amount of content and B&N will have a larger audience to market its e-books too, so it’s a win-win situation.
The third generation Irex iLiad will be one of the better Kindle competitors on the market. While I don’t expect it to kill Kindle, it seems like a nice alternative and certainly worth a consideration. So in that regard, the partnership with B&N is a big plus for the manufacturer. Irex has big plans for its newest e-book reader. Several content partnerships are yet to be announced and who knows what other surprises the company has in store for us. Nevertheless, It’ll be interesting to see how Irex reader 3G fares against the new Sony Readers and Kindle.
