Remember Plastic Logic? AT&T Does.
0I remember when I first saw Plastic Logic at DEMO conference. I thought it was an innovative solution that had a legitimate chance of challenging Kindle as long as the company partnered with right firms. But that was when Kindle 1.0 was king. After not hearing about these guys for a while, we just assumed maybe they were working on addressing some of the challenges that the next generation Kindles have posed to other e-book readers on the market. And it seems they have done just that by partnering up with AT&T.
Plastic Logic is a very interesting gadget, and AT&T is known for taking risks with promising gadgets. While I do see Plastic Logic having success in the business segment of the market, I am not sure the device is going to have Kindle-like success. So it’d not be out of the realm of possibility for AT&T to bring up a few other e-book readers on board as well.
The good news in all this is the fact that we will see another viable challenger to Kindle. I admit Plastic Logic Reader won’t be beating Kindle in the consumer or even the business market (now that Kindle DX is out). But it’s nice to have options. At least Plastic Logic is trying to compete unlike some other e-book reader makers.
