How to Fix a Water Damaged iPad – 7 Tips
0Have you ever had the misfortune of dropping your iPad in some water by accident? Your tablet may be powerful but it is not designed to handle liquid accidents well. That’s why picking up a waterproof case for it is a great idea. Just because you have exposed your tablet to some water does not mean it is going to die on you. Here are 7 ways to save your tablet:
- pick up your iPad fast: you should immediately remove your tablet from water to prevent it from further entering your tablet. The longer you hesitate, the less chance of survival your iPad will have.
- make sure your iPad is turned off: you are always going to have a better chance to save your water-damaged tablet if it is turned off.
- open what you can: the iPad is not known for its high repairability score. If you can open up certain parts and dry them, more power to you. Don’t push your luck though.
- use silica gel or alcohol: many folks put their water-damaged electronics in a bag of uncooked rice to get rid of the moisture. Using silica gel is a much better idea. Don’t forget to take safety precautions and get yourself the right tools before using the gel. We prefer getting professional kits that are much easier to use.
- use Isopropyl Alcohol: this is for more advanced users. You need to be careful to use the right type of alcohol to avoid further damaging your tablet. Apply using the cloth you have picked up just for this process.
- do not use a hairdryer: do not use a hairdryer as this could push moisture deeper into your tablet or melt certain components of it.
- do stay safe: going back to the silica gel step, just make sure you have the right equipment to treat your iPad the right way. You may need gloves, clothes, a clean room, and tools to open your iPad to pull this off.
This process is not perfect. If you are lucky, you will be able to use your iPad after a few hours. If not, do yourself a favor and pick up a water resistant case for your tablet the next time.
