Acer Iconia W700 Windows 8 Tablet Review

After weeks of waiting, we were finally able to get our hands on an Acer Iconia W700 tablet a few days ago. This is a 11.6 inch tablet that runs full Windows 8. That means you will be able to run legacy Windows applications on your device. It is a real computer but has been fit into an ultra compact design. Unlike the iPad, the Acer Iconia W700 tablet does have an Intel Core processor inside with 4 GB RAM. It has a USB 3.0 port as well.
The device did look quite elegant to us. It is built like a tank. The weight is quite noticeable, especially if you are used to holding devices such as the Kindle Fire HD. The Acer Iconia W7 is capable of offering you the Windows 8 experience (whether we liked it is another story). What’s neat about this particular product is the fact that it ships with a free dock, keyboard, backup DVDs, and case. Acer has even included a cleaning cloth for the tablet.
We were able to run games and software applications such as Photoshop and Illustrator on the device easily. E-reading apps such as Kobo and Kindle worked fine too (we did have some issues with NOOK for Windows 8). The battery life is fairly decent as long as you don’t spend all day long running 3D games or video editing software on the tablet.
Should you get the Acer Iconia W700? It is too expensive to replace an e-reader. Windows 8 may look shiny but not everyone is a fan. But for doing work, this is a fairly decent tablet. The large screen did make reading books on it a whole lot more convenient. As far as Windows 8 tablets go, this one does offer a good bang for buck. It is available for as low as $799 at this point.
