Apple Approves New Nook App, Not Buying B&N
0Apple’s changes to its third-party content policies has forced many app makers to update their applications and remove payment features from their apps. Users of e-reader apps will still be able to make purchases online but not from within these applications. This applies to NOOK too. In fact, Apple has already accepted the latest version of NOOK with these changes (photo via CNET):
The new NOOK application has a new interface and will support magazines and newspapers. But it won’t have a “shop” link.
During the past weekend, there were rumors that Apple may be preparing to buy B&N. The company has a ton of cash and is looking for ways to grow. B&N has over 700 physical stores and would give Apple a stronger physical presence. Experts believe Apple will most likely hold on to its money and find other ways to invest in its growth. Apple acquiring B&N at any point could be quite an ugly development for NOOK fans.
