Kindle App Running On Nook Simple Touch?
0The 2nd generation NOOK or Simple Touch NOOK is one of the most exciting e-readers we have tested this year. It is quite compact and offers a few features that are sadly missing in Kindle 3. The good news is it runs on Android. That means it can be hacked to run certain Android applications, such as the Kindle app for that platform. In fact, the video of a rooted Nook 2G running Kindle has already generated a lot of buzz on the Internet.
To be fair, the hack does seem to have a few issues. Kindle for Android does seem a tad bit sluggish in the above video. Having the ability to access Kindle books on NOOK is priceless though. The reading experience seems good enough, if not perfect. It is interesting to note that Kindle is not the only Android app that can be run on NOOK 2G.
Amazon has a closed platform and is not likely to open it up anytime soon. Kindle 4 is expected to be a touch-screen device by all accounts. But it is not clear when it will make its debut. If you need a touchscreen e-ink e-reader, NOOK 2G is the best option at this point.
