Amazon’s Tablet: Kindle for Movies?
0Amazon has managed to rejuvenate the e-book industry with its Kindle devices. Many have criticized Amazon for not offering color displays on these. Amazon’s focus on user experience and device simplicity has helped it make Kindle one of the top gadgets around even without that color screen. But with devices such as iPad selling like hotcakes, it is only a matter of time before Amazon enters the tablet market.
B&N turned its focus to the tablet market a while go to differentiate its product from Amazon e-readers. At first, many were skeptical about the future of NOOK Color. Thanks to Android and the community behind it, the device has been a success. Amazon’s Kindle tablet is expected to be much more than an e-reader though. Amazon has worked hard to build an Android Appstore. Its video-on-demand and cloud music services are made for tablets too.
We have already discussed the rumors on dual and quad core Kindle tablets which may be released later this year. From the look of it, these will be optimized to handle sophisticated apps, videos, and the full web. Amazon is not only interested in taking market-share away from NOOK color, it will be going after high-end tablets such as iPad and Xoom. It will find the tablet market harder to dominate than the e-reader market though.
