Amazon Dual and Quad-Core Tablets Coming
0It has been a dirty little secret that Amazon will be getting in the tablet business to compete with the big boys such as Apple. The company has slowly but surely put together a powerful ecosystem in place for its upcoming tablets to gain momentum fast. Amazon’s cloud music service, Android Appstore, and Video On-demand content are small parts of that puzzle. According to multiple sources, Amazon will be bringing dual and quad core tablets to the market by the end of 2011.
Coyote seems to be the first of these tablets by Amazon. It will have Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor on-board. This device is expected to be an entry tablet, essentially enabling Amazon to go after people who are too hesitant about spending hundreds of dollars on premium tablets such as iPad. The second tablet, codenamed “Hollywood,” will be competing against the big boys such as iPad and Xoom. It will have T30 “Kal-El” quad-core processor on-board.
Jeff Bezos may be a brilliant business individual. But he was not exactly keeping Amazon’s secret when he claimed his company will shortly unveil its plans for the tablet business. In the same interview with Consumer Reports, Mr Bezos claimed color Kindles won’t be making their debut anytime soon:
is not ready for prime time…the colors are very pale… it makes a lot of sense for there to be a low-power, reflective color display. I think that’s something you could build a fantastic product around.
For now, it seems Amazon’s main focus will be on the tablet market. It has to be as the company will be going against a giant that can’t be easily toppled. It will be interesting to see how Amazon’s tablets affect Kindle sales.
