Amazon Android AppStore Launches
0Amazon’s Appstore has been in the works for months. The company started reaching out to Android developers a while ago. We have been also hearing rumors about Kindle going fully Android. The first step of the process is complete. Amazon has introduced its shiny AppStore with a ton of Android apps for phones and tablets.
To push its AppStore properly, Amazon is offering free app promotions on a daily basis. As long as you have an Android device, you can download your apps in a flash. The fact that Amazon will review applications before approving them to its AppStore should be great news for Android lovers.
Amazon AppStore is full of attractive Android applications. What Amazon is missing at this point is an Android tablet. Will the company add a LCD-based tablet to Kindle family? That is not clear at this point. We also do not know what will happen to Kindle’s SDK. Most applications available in Amazon AppStore put Kindle apps to shame.
It is hard for us to imagine Amazon abandoning E-ink completely to build an iPad like Android device. Dedicated e-book readers are very much in demand. E-ink based devices could technically run Android too. Amazon may be serious about Android but that does not necessarily mean it is ready to say farewell to E-ink technology.
Your take: what should Amazon do?
