Nook 1.5 Firmware Update Rolling Out

Many B&N Nook 1.0 fans may feel a bit left out with the company turning its focus to Nook Color (its new shiny Android tablet). Rest assured, B&N intends to still provide service for older Nooks. Nook 1.5 firmware which is in the process of being rolled out is developed to improve Nook’s performance and enhance its functionality. It will improve the search functionality on older Nooks. In addition, B&N promises a much better page turn speed with this update (as demonstrated in the video below).
Here is what’s new in Nook 1.5:
- Sync across multiple devices: this new firmware will allow Nook owners to start reading books on one device and finish it on another. Users stay synced across all their devices, giving them the flexibility to continue their readings on their smart-phone, PC, or other Nook compatible products.
- “My Shelves” support: the new software makes it easier for Nook owners to organize their books. All they have to do is create shelves and organize their books using them.
- Password protection for Nook: worried about others getting their hands on your Nook? You can now make Nook ask for a password when it is turned back on from the sleep mode. Nook 1.5 also allows users to password-protect book buying privilege on their e-reader. That means even if strangers get their hand on your device, they won’t be able to buy anything without a password.
Nook is still behind Kindle 3 in many areas. But these latest updates should make Nook owners happy. B&N intends to roll this update out in waves, so some may get it before others.
