Kobo Desktop for Mac & PC Debuts
0Most top e-book reader makers understand the benefits of improving and widely distributing their software platforms to increase their e-book sales. Amazon and B&N have already brought their platforms to mobile devices and personal computers. Kobo has followed suit and released its own desktop software for Kobo fans but here is the catch: Kobo desktop is compatible with other e-book readers as well. In a perfect world, Kobo desktop could act as the iTunes of e-books. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with Amazon Kindle.
Users can use Kobo desktop to manage all their e-books in one place. Those who happen to own a Sony or nook reader can take advantage of this software to upload books to their e-readers. Of course, this software can be used to buy books too.
Think of it like your iTunes for Books. The Kobo Desktop App offers you the same benefits – a personalized, secure and central location to manage all your eBook content. Unlike iTunes though, the Kobo desktop helps you with non Kobo device/apps as well. Own a Nook or Sony Reader but want to shop with Kobo or access our huge catalog of ebooks? Great! Our desktop app also makes it easy to connect your eReader (any Adobe DRM / ePub compatible eReader or device).
Kobo desktop is an exciting development, but it is not the only one for Kobo. Apparently, Kobo reader software will be included on Samsung Galaxy Tab. Kobo reader may not be the best e-reader on the market. Kobo won’t be topping Amazon or B&N anytime soon. But the company has shown a lot of promise in the past few months. Let’s hope it survives the aggressive strategies of Amazon, Apple, and B&N.
