Nook Selling Better Than Kindle?

We have been claiming for months that Amazon Kindle may be slowing down a bit, making it necessary for Amazon to make its move and get Kindle 3 to the market as soon as possible. But who would have thought Nook could beat Kindle in the number of shipped unit over a month. That’s exactly what’s happened as Nook accounted for 53 percent of e-book readers shipped in the U.S for the month of March. Barnes & Noble is doing extremely well with Nook, and if the rumors about Nook 2 are true, the company may have what it takes to wrestle even more market-share from Amazon.
The trouble is we are talking about shipped items and not sold items. These companies do not release their sales numbers, so it is quite tough for anyone to guess how many units they each have actually sold. The good news for both companies is the fact that this market is expected to grow for the foreseeable future. Of course, there are other companies that will be gunning for their piece of the pie. Let’s not forget about Apple iPad and HP Slate either.
We are getting awfully close to that time of the year again. Amazon Kindle 2 has been around for quite some time. Amazon needs to gets its act together (as far as its SDK is concerned) and work towards releasing Kindle 3 in the next couple of months. Amazon is going to get a boost in Kindle sales from Target. That is going to buy Amazon a bit of time. On the one hand, the company is losing a bit of momentum everyday. On the other hand, Amazon can’t afford not to deliver big with Kindle 3. So it will take its time. Rushing Kindle 3.0 to the market before it’s absolutely ready is the last thing Amazon wants to do at this point.
