Kindle DX 2.0 Availability Date Revealed
0For those of you who have been waiting to get your hands on the new Kindle DX with global wireless, the wait is almost over. Amazon has announced that the new Kindle DX units will be shipped starting January 19th. Unlike what people have assumed, Amazon has indeed made some small changes to the new Kindle. Amazon has finally moved on from its contract with Sprint. It’s not known whether the companies will work on future Kindles together. Sprint has already moved on and taking on new mobile devices, but AT&T is currently king when it comes to providing wireless service for e-book readers.
Kindle DX’s battery life seems to have been improved as well. Now you can go for 1 week reading on your Kindle without having to charge it. That’s a couple days more than we used to get on older Kindle DX units. The biggest difference between the two models is the price of downloads. The new Kindle DX will cost you a bit more if you are planning to download books internationally. Of course, if you have owned a Kindle 2 International, you are probably familiar with those fees.
Should you get a Kindle DX international? It depends what you need. Skiff and Plastic Logic are both very decent alternatives. Besides, we may get the next Kindle as early as February this year. So if you are running on a limited budget, you may want to wait. We are all going to have more options to choose from by June.
Your take: do you like AT&T’s wireless service for Kindle (in comparison to Sprint’s)?
