eBook Readers List – Jan 2010

2010 is finally upon us, and it has started with a bang for all of us e-reader fans. CES was truly an exciting event for the fans of this industry, and that’s just the start. The e-book reader market is here to stay and grow. So you can expect more ebook readers to be released to the market by the time we are done with 2010. With that in mind, here is the list of e-book readers that are on the horizon in 2010:

• Sony Reader Daily Edition PRS-900BC: PRS-900BC this reader was announced a while ago, and many of us expected it to be available for sale in late 2009. Has 3G wireless and a 7 inch screen.
• Apple iSlate Tablet: this seems to be the year that Apple tablet makes its debut. The rumors are all over the place, but it won’t be competing directly against Kindle. Of course, Apple may try that.
• Microsoft Courier: the are a lot of rumors going around about the possibility of Microsoft releasing its own tablet/e-reader. Courier is back in discussions again.
• Skiff reader: Skiff reader is the most exciting e-book reader that was announced at CES. It’s shatterproof, very flexible, and supposedly capable of handling magazines, newspapers, and complex layouts.
• QUE e-Book Reader: Plastic Logic is finally releasing Que reader in April. The device is impressive by itself, but it’s pricey and is more likely to attract business users.
• eDGe: this device also created a lot of buzz as it’s the first hybrid ereader/netbook on the market. It’s certainly nice to have two screens to work with.
• Alex: another Android e-book reader that comes with a similar concept to Nook. Spring Design is planning an app store for this device, which is exciting.
• Fujitsu FLEPia: a color screen e-book reader that is expected to hit the U.S. market soon. The device was presented at CES 2010 and is available in Japan for now.
• iRiver : iRiver is also interested in the ebook reader market. iRiver Story is more than an e-book reader however. You could think of it as your personal organizer as well.

A few other companies announced their plans to introduce new e-book readers to the market in 2010. So the market is going to get very crowded soon. Let’s not forget that Kindle 3 is on its way, and we could have it in a matter of months. e-book readers won’t be cheap, so pick and choose wisely.
