Android Tablets Outsold Apple iPad In 2013?
0That really should not surprise anyone. It is true that Apple continues to sell millions of iPads each year. It is also true that the iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 are the two best tablets on the market, period. But there are plenty of decent alternatives available to Android fans. The platform has been growing exponentially over the years. A recent report by Gartner is now suggesting that Android was a more popular tablet platform than iOS in 2013.
In 2013, Android had a 61.9% market share while Apple could only get 36% of the market. Of course, people are buying more tablets every year, so it is not as if we saw an iPad killer last year.
In 2013, tablets became a mainstream phenomenon, with a vast choice of Android-based tablets being within the budget of mainstream consumers while still offering adequate specifications … As the Android tablet market becomes highly commoditized, in 2014, it will be critical for vendors to focus on device experience and meaningful technology and ecosystem value — beyond just hardware and cost — to ensure brand loyalty and improved margins.
said Roberta Cozza, research director at Gartner. Android will continue to grow for now. But Apple is making a ton of profit on its devices and will continue to do so. Besides, it is now focused on its next great product, the iWatch.
