Author Sells 1M E-books Through B&N’s PubIt!
0Kindle and NOOK publishing have given many independent authors the chance to get their work in front of more people with less effort. Many virtually unknown authors have taken advantage of them to get their works the attention that they deserve. Some like Barbara Freethy have managed to outperform other authors by selling a huge number of e-books. In this case, Freethy has sold over a million copies of her ebooks via PubIt. We are not talking about one book though. She is the author of 32 books.
Naturally, most of us would love to know what her thoughts and suggestions are for authors who are just getting started with these platforms. Here is what she had to say on her blog:
Many people have written to ask me for advice on how to successfully self-publish. My best advice, having watched how my books have performed the last two years, is to write a lot of books! I’ve discovered that every new book raises the tide on sales for the previous ones. I honestly think writing the next book is a more important and a better use of your time than investing too many hours or too many dollars into promotion. I do still believe in Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest and other social media experiments but only on a limited basis. Aside from promotion, hiring the right team of editors, artists, marketing, whatever you need to put out a professional product, is very important.
The good news is platforms such as KDP and PubIt! do allow authors to focus more on their works and less about how to get them in front of more people. The more great authors write, the better it is for everyone involved. As you can read on her blog, she did not do everything on her own. The author also relied on other pros to make her work look as professional as possible. What Barbara Freethy has achieved is quite special and not something easy to accomplish. But everyone has to start somewhere.
